CRX3D / Your first printer, explained

New to 3D printing?
Start with what you want to make.

You don't need to know the technical terms. Start with your budget, your ideas and the size of your prints. We'll help you find a sensible starting point from the printers in our range.

01 / Start with budget and use

A few starting points to discuss.

Keep some of your total budget for material, delivery and extras. These bands describe printer prices only. Your project, print size and complete setup matter just as much.

Below R10 000: learn, create and explore

The Ender-3 V4 at R6 499 starts the supplied range. The V3 Plus and Neptune 4 Plus at R8 999 add room for larger hobby projects. At R9 999, compare the SPARKX i7 Color Combo for gifts or K1C 2025 for enclosed single-colour printing.

R10 000–R20 000: choose around the project

The K2 at R12 999 is an enclosed option; the Centauri Carbon 2 Combo at R13 999 includes colour. The Neptune 4 Max at R10 999 suits genuine large-print needs. Fine-detail resin starts with the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K at R15 499, plus a complete resin workflow.

Above R20 000: confirm what you actually need

The K2 Pro and Plus families add active chamber heating and different build sizes. Jupiter 2 is a larger resin route. OrangeStorm Giga is a specialist large-format option. Ask us to review the project before committing to extra capacity.

02 / No experience needed

Three useful starting routes.

You don't have to start with the biggest machine. Start with the kind of object you want to make.

Learn & create

Everyday filament printing

A filament printer melts plastic from a spool and builds an object layer by layer. PLA is a common starting material for organisers, models, signs and learning. The Ender-3 V4 starts the supplied range at R6 499; the SPARKX i7 Color Combo adds an included colour system at R9 999.

Make & develop

Practical parts or products

Think about your actual part size, material and repeatable workflow. An enclosed K1C, K2 or Centauri Carbon 2 Combo may be a useful starting point. Larger or heated-chamber models make sense when a project needs their extra capability.

Talk through my business idea →

Small & highly detailed

The resin route

Resin printers use light to cure liquid resin. They suit tiny surface detail, such as tabletop figures. The Saturn 4 Ultra 16K is the lower-priced resin option here; the Jupiter 2 offers a larger build area. Both need a separate cleaning and curing workflow.

Guide prices are supplied figures, not live quotes. Build dimensions are width × depth × height in millimetres; 10 mm = 1 cm. Build volume is not the space the printer needs on your desk. Allow room for moving parts, filament systems, access and ventilation. The workflow labels are our guide to choosing, not a guarantee of effortless printing.

Think beyond the box

Your first setup is more than a printer.

Leave room for supplies

For filament printing, plan for a spool of suitable filament, basic maintenance items, delivery and a stable work surface. A dryer or extra build plate may be useful later. A sample spool in the box isn't a complete long-term supply.

Resin needs a complete workflow

Plan suitable washing solution and equipment, UV curing, nitrile gloves, eye protection and a ventilated workspace. Larger prints need cleaning and curing equipment that can accommodate them. Ask us to cost the whole setup.

Colour is optional, not essential

Single-colour printers can make useful and attractive objects. Included colour systems automate changes between compatible filaments; they add space, setup, print time and purge waste. You can also paint a finished model.

Business starts with a test project

Show us an example of what you want to sell. Consider material, print time, failed prints, finishing and repeatability before planning output. A larger printer or a higher advertised speed alone doesn't guarantee a viable business.

04 / First-time questions

The things you might
be wondering.

Ask us in plain language. You don't need a model number or a perfect brief.

Do I need to know how to design in 3D?

No. You can begin with a ready-made 3D model, then use a slicer to turn it into printer instructions. Designing your own objects is a separate skill you can learn later. Ask us about a simple first project and compatible software.

Does automatic levelling make it plug-and-play?

It helps prepare the first layer, but you still need to unpack and set up the printer, load material, select the correct profile and learn basic maintenance. Some models need more assembly or bed adjustment than others.

Should I buy the largest printer I can afford?

Only if you need the space. Bigger machines need more room, and large prints can consume a lot of material and time. Measure the largest piece you actually need; splitting a model into sections can sometimes avoid buying a much larger printer.

What does Combo or CFS Ready mean?

For the colour bundles shown here, Combo includes the listed colour system. CFS Ready means an upgrade route may be available, not that a colour unit is supplied. Confirm the exact model and compatible system with CRX3D; these systems aren't universally interchangeable.

Which printer should I buy for a business?

Start with the product, size, material and expected quantities. A colourful gift workflow is different from a large prop or a detailed resin figure. We can help turn an example project and budget into a shortlist, then work through the starting setup personally.

Can CRX3D help if I have no idea where to start?

Yes. Tell us what you'd like to make, roughly how much you want to spend and where the printer will live. We can work through this guide with you personally and recommend a printer or a sensible starting point. You don't have to work it out alone.

Guide prepared 23 October 2026 using the supplied CRX3D price list. Specifications checked against Creality and ELEGOO; each printer links to its manufacturer reference. Recommendations are based on your answers and broad workflow trade-offs. Confirm the exact printer, materials, price and included accessories before ordering.
